JC CHEMISTRY

Why study H2 CHEMISTRY in JC?

Chemistry is often called the central science. It links with all the other sciences and underpins many branches of technology from the silicon chip to brewing. There are lots of areas of chemistry that you could go into including chemical sciences such as biochemistry, marine or pharmaceutical chemistry; agricultural or food science; biological sciences such as zoology, botany or genetics; medical sciences such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacology or toxicology; physiological sciences such as anatomy, pathology or neuroscience; or chemical engineering.

Careers in chemistry are everywhere. From space research to the depths of the world’s oceans, Chemists are involved in collecting valuable information. Knowledge of chemistry will give you a greater understanding of the world you live in and could lead to a career which is exciting and enjoyable with lots of variety and opportunities. Chemists are making medicines that help in the fight against cancer and Aids; improving the colour and taste of foods; investigating the chemicals in cosmetics; improving the way that new materials are used in mountain bikes and; protecting the environment for future generations.

CURRICULUM & PEDAGOGY

The Course

At EduCHAMPS, students are provided with a good foundation in physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and organic chemistry. Our curriculum covers an extension of those topics in H1 Chemistry, as well as a wider range of topics than H1 Chemistry. These include Stoichiometry, Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, the Gaseous State, Chemical Energetics, Electrochemistry, Equilibria, Reaction Kinetics, Chemical Periodicity, Group II, Group VII, Transition Elements, and Organic Chemistry.

Our JC H2 Chemistry tuition programme will not only help students to develop a thorough understanding of important chemistry principles and practical skills but also teach them to apply these knowledge to solve problems.

Examination: Students undertake four components.

• One paper, comprising of multiple-choice questions.
• One paper, comprising of structured questions.
• One paper, comprising of free response questions.
• School-based Science Practical Assessment (SPA).
