EduCHAMPS Weekly Gifted Education Programme (GEP) Expert Preparatory For Primary 1 to Primary 3
MOE GEP Screening and Selection test:
Every year, the cohort of Primary 3 students is invited to sit for a GEP screening test (1st round) on 15th August 2024. The test is not compulsory but all children are encouraged to go for it. The test comprises of English and a Mathematics paper, about 1½ hours each.
Out of the cohort of approximately 30,000 kids, some 3,000 pupils (about 10%) are short-listed for the GEP selection test. The selection test (2nd round) takes place over two days on 15th October and 16st October 2024. The first day: an English paper and a General Ability paper, about 2½ hours in total. The second day: Mathematics paper and another General Ability paper, also about 2½ hours altogether.
From the selection test, about 400 kids (about top 1% of cohort) are invited to join the Primary 4 GEP classes every year. The results are released in early November 2024.
In 2023, 382 students are invited to join the Primary 4 GEP classes in 9 schools that offer the Gifted Education Programme as shown in the table below:

Goals of EduCHAMPS GEP Expert Preparatory Class are as follows:

Gifted kids:
The term “gifted” is used to include many kinds of strengths. However, there are a few broad areas in which giftedness can show itself. They are intellectual ability, leadership ability, talent in art and music, and psychomotor ability. The intellectually gifted need a high degree of mental stimulation. This need may not be met in the mainstream classroom and the gifted child may become mediocre, indifferent or disruptive in class.
Gifted kids are like raw diamonds, which needed to be exposed, nurtured and guided to be prepared for the yearly Primary 3 GEP screening and selection test in August and October. Giftedness, by definition, refers to exceptional talent or natural ability. Yet, the geniuses we see around us are often a product of nature and nurture. In 2023, 100% of our students passed the GEP Screening test (1st round) and 58 of our students passed the GEP Selection test (2nd round) and got into the Primary 4 Gifted Education Programme 2023. That’s 68% success rate.

什么是GEP?
GEP 是Gifted Education Programme的缩写，华文就是“高才教育计划”。
GEP 1984在新加坡首次推出，旨为发掘在主流教育环境中学有余力的孩子，满足其高于同龄孩子学习方面的渴求，从而达到培养学术高精尖人才的目的，也培养学生们强烈的社会良知，致力为社会和国家服务责任心的领导价值观和品质。
GEP的通过率及男女比例是多少？
GEP 刚推出时是0.25%，之后逐渐增加到0.5%至最高的1.5%，近年稳定在1%。
官方并没有男女比例规定，只能根据GEP在学人数做出统计，前几年比例为男/女=3/2，近年男/女=2/1。我们认为并不是刻意调整的人数比例，应该说男生比较适应这个考试。
通过补习上了GEP，是正确的途径吗？进了GEP会不会跟不上？
GEP 的课程安排与主流学生不一样。有很多的课外项目是需要GEP单独或组队完成的，孩子会面临学业较重的压力。正因为如此，有些孩子考过GEP二轮，一些新加坡本地家长不愿孩子承受较重的学业压力而放弃进入GEP的机会。从历年GEP学生的表现来看，又不得不佩服MOE的犀利选人眼光，通过GEP高质量的刷选考试来保证GEP学生这么多年在PSLE及各大竞赛中的优秀表现。这么多年几乎未听说过因学业被劝退的学生，只有品行未达标被警告退出的，而每年各间GEP学校PSLE少于250的孩子寥寥无几。
听说你们的学生都是测试选出来的好学生？
EduCHAMPS第一届招入的学生主要有两个来源，一是学校筹备创办时一些熟识的朋友推荐来的学生，未经过测试，另一个是公开测试录取的学生。
限额招收学生也有两个原因：
第一，GEP考试百里挑一，并不是人人合适，我们挑选合适的学员是秉持负责的态度。我们收了一部分起点较低的孩子也是和家长沟通好一轮有把握，让他们放正目标，当然结果也因后期的努力出了不少黑马顺利通过二轮。
第二，由于师资和场地限制，我们限额招收学生，因此流失了许多很有潜力的苗子。
小三既有高才培训数学班又有奥数班，两者有什么区别呢?
三年级数学高才培训班以MOE小学阶段三年级和四年级教纲为指导，全面覆盖GEP考核标准和深度，对小三阶段常见的数学奥赛备考也有帮助；三年级奥数班目标主要针对新加坡小三，小四阶段的常见数学奥赛， 比如SASMO, The World Contest (TWC), Kangaroo Math, ICAS, Australia Math Competition, 个别优秀的学生可以参加新加坡小五阶段的NMOS竞赛。奥数班同时也兼顾GEP考核的标准和深度，部分练习和讲解是对小三数学高才班的有力补充。
小三高才培训班数学课的作业很多吗？
高才班的数学课有课堂讲解练习和课后家庭作业。家庭作业的练习从基础开始，难度逐步加大，比课堂练习稍简单，孩子们可把课堂上所学技巧应用上，有助于学生对课堂知识的巩固。除此之外，还有一个数学周周练，用于丰富孩子的数学视野和提高数学解题能力。
小三高才培训班数学课的家庭作业和数学周周练有什么区别？
家庭作业与课堂练习相对应，难度限定在GEP考核范围内。数学周周练是辅助练习，以GEP考核范围为核心，会包含一些所谓的偏题和怪题。这种偏题和怪题在GEP考试中出现的概率不大，但训练得更全面些会有助于GEP考试中以防万一，同时周周练会帮助学生备考小三阶段常见的数学奥赛。
什么是GA？要单独上课吗？
GA 是General Ability 的缩写。GEP主要包含数学GA和英文GA两科考核。在EduCHAMPS，数学GA包含在数学课中，英文 GA包含在英文课中。
听说在EduCHAMPS高才培训班数学课要教授代数方程，是不是太超前学了？
新加坡主流小学数学的解题方式主要讲授的是model的方法，这是一种形象思维的训练；而代数方程方法是一种抽象思维的训练。两者之间并不排斥，相反是可以相辅相成，全面训练孩子的智力发展。在欧美的小学主流数学教材中，都有循序渐进的代数方程的教学内容。新加坡一些名校在小五小六的数学教案中也开始逐渐包含了代数方程的解题思维。所以说学习代数方程解题，并不是超前学。目前在EduCHAMPS的高才班讲授的代数方程主要围绕GEP数学题的难度只讲授线性方程，不涉及高阶方程。

白猫黑猫，抓住老鼠的都是好猫。在EduCHAMPS高才班数学课，model方法和代数方程方法都会讲授。我们增加代数方程方法的讲授，是因为根据我们往年带学生备考GEP的经验，学会代数方程方法对GEP数学的考试帮助太大了，可以大幅缩短解题时间和提高准确率。
